Nastiest way to win/lose I lost a won game at the weekend to devious tactics by a 11 year old. Is wasnt internet based it was at a rapidplay tournament. Heres what happened... My next move is mate, my opponent has a choice to put his checked King into 1 of 3 forced mate positions. I have 2 mins on my clock, my opponent has 10 mins. My opponent to play, regardless of what he plays, he loses. YET I LOST THE GAME! HOW?.... I had not pressed… More: chess online

Why some players start stalling when losing? ... I just don't get the point!!!!! Recently I had some games where my opponents played quite fast (a move a day, or more) until they were in a clear losing position. Then they just started to play at the latest possible moment (even so they would still be online). I know they can do that since they are in the time limit: it's totally fair, but I just don't understand the reasons... Why not just to… More: online chess

Greatest Chessplayer Ever ?! What happened to Janpot, thought he was going to ask this. Since I have to; it gets modified. Wondering who YOUR TOP 10 would be. Haven't decided mine for sure yet. I might be more interested in 10 Greatest Attackers or something. Anything on such lines; any opinions out there? If so, please help our new, more boring Forums to survive, and say so!~ Thanks Much, You Bet ! I was thinking of something simillar O.K. here… More: backgammon online

What makes a great chess player? Is it just the ability to beat everyone else? Surely this cannot be. So, what do you think makes a great chess player? if a strong player who has keen understanding not just knowledge.. and a good sense of sportsmanship. someone who promotes the game as well as plays it well. Wishful Thinking "Surely this cannot be." Why not? It's kind of obvious that if I say "he's a great chess player," someone can ask me… More: chess history

opening repertoire For quite some time I wanted to make some opening repertoire, but I can't seem to make decisions. The first blockade is that I don't know what kind of style I have, altough I usually like playing slightly open games and especially like piece activity. I am very sure I do not like gambits (It sets a pressure on me which I don't like) or very sharp play. However, I don't mind playing queens gambit and its sollidness attracts me.… More: correspondence chess

The one best thing What is the one best thing Gameknot players have done to improve their game? For me it's playing over master games slowly and deciding the best move of the winning player before uncovering it. I used to spend a lot of time memorizing openings before realizing, all i had to do was reach a playable position. But that's me. For some people studying openings might be the answer, or tactics or simply playing against the computer OR play chess online…

How dedicated ?? I was wondering just how many are hardcore chess fanatics here. For example since most chessplayers are males and majority here at GK are male. Would you chose Chess over Romance???? For example if you had 1st choice to play a game of chess with your favorite GM OR World Champ -2nd choice spend a day or romantic time with your wife/girlfriend / favorite model etc. Would you chose Romance or Chess?? I suspect only the truly play chess online…

Live and Learn!!!! I recently was entered into 2 Master tournaments in ICCF. The first match does not "officially" start until 10/20 and that is awfully lucky for me. I have been playing chess quite a number of years and I have been playing internationally for about 8 years. I thought I have seen it all but apparently I have not. :-) Today one of my opponents sent his opening move to me. The move was 1.5254 So I sent him an email back asking play chess online…

Rudolph Charousek another fantastic player that was a chess genius , very original thinker like Rubinstein, but never gets the attention he deserves. CHAROUSEK"S GAMES of CHESS BY PHILLIP W. SERGEANT, is a must read for anyone interested in chess history . although he died at a very young age his chess record is fantastic considering he never got to reach his prime . after his defeat in a game with Charousek, the great Lasker predicted that he play chess online…
