bookstores so - are there any bookstores in the uk that hold a decent selection of chess books? in my experience the usual places are hopeless.....even waterstones, a very large outfit are pitiful. yes i know that amazon (or gk online) is the best way to go - but i'm old fashioned you know? i like to browse and to look through a few before deciding - not just reading other people's reviews (although brobishkin, i think i can safely take your word as a good reference considering your rating..)
so - any ideas?

Well it depends where you live. If you are in london, then the london chess center is a well known chess store, with thousands of books, new and old, and they also sell other chess goods. their website, should give you more info on how to get to them. Hope this helps :-)

I know how you feel The only chess books in my town are in the library, and there's only a few in there. Also, I don't have a credit card so can't pay for things online.

How creepy is that? Just as I type in the web address suggested by nwadvana, my dad walks in and gives me the catalogue for the same shop. It's almost as though there is some kind of chess god trying to tell me to get down to London.

Robbie... Due to the fact I'm currently in the U.S. I am not the best info on the U.K. market on chess books... But the game of chess is much more popular in the European countries so finding the books cant be all that hard... Good luck...

P.S. ratings dont matter much on-line... My rating is much lower here than my real world USCF rating (a slight emotional let down), but these computer programs keep on getting better and harder to defeat... So give me time... Thanks for the compliment...
