How dedicated ?? I was wondering just how many are hardcore chess fanatics here.
For example since most chessplayers are males and majority here at GK are male.
Would you chose Chess over Romance????

For example if you had 1st choice to play a game of chess with your favorite GM OR World Champ -2nd choice spend a day or romantic time with your wife/girlfriend / favorite model etc.
Would you chose Romance or Chess??
I suspect only the truly dedicated would chose Chess
I hope this is chess related ??--Was just wondering !! --BBG
invincible1 46 ( +1 | -1 )
Me I think I would prefer chess. Well I am certainly not 'dedicated'. But I do love this game with all my heart and its more than just an addiction.. a passion! Of this question I am not very sure of the answer, but if the question was something like "Given a choice, would you be willing to give up chess forever if in return you got the most amazing, wonderful girl for the rest of your life" my answer is easy No! I can never live without chess!
bluebabygirl 26 ( +1 | -1 )
to the chess addict You would chose chess over "the most amazing ,wonderful girl"......
Never give up chess!!
I am very impressed with your dedication!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I too love chess most dearly but I would chose true Romance over chess.-BBG
invincible1 26 ( +1 | -1 )
NO That's not dedication! That's craziness!!!
I don't suffer from insanity.... I love every minute of it!!!

And all this is now when I don't 'see' any gorgeous girl infront of me.. If I do, she would surely drive me nuts and I might just dump the chessboard and run away with her ;-)! Who knows...

Easy choice Input: Chess or a beautiful woman?

Output: A beautiful woman.

Procesing time: 0.0001 nanoseconds.

A very little Perl script:

#!/usr/bin/perl
print "What is your name, man?\n";
$input = <STDIN>;
chomp($input);
#I must be very careful with the next line of code not to be banned by Mike
print "Dear $input, what kind of a question is that?\n";

Regards,

Andrés

this is a no-brainer… it ain't chess.
mary875 1 ( +1 | -1 )
Easy... ... my fiancée;)
ccmcacollister 43 ( +1 | -1 )
BBG ... Depends Whether one is a great guitar player and the other not. If both or neither, then does either (careful avoidance of word here) keep & increase stock of Arabian race horses? If if comes down to plain-Jane Vanilla GM or Fiancee'; of course The Right One would Want me to meet the GM ! :)

[And would require only 2, "You know I'd love to go with you, Honey 's!", before insisting I go! Where is this Angel ?!]

Lifes lesson... And here I thought all chess players were romantics... Chess has very little to do with the call of nature... In fact I would be so bold to say... Chess has everything to do with logic and very little to do with emotion... Emotions lead down the road to ruin in the game of chess... But lifes lesson are usually born from emotions... So who am I to deny the charge of natues call for this game of logical whim?... Well emotions will always be in motion...

invincible1 37 ( +1 | -1 )
Well Even after reading all the replies, I feel I wouldn't be willing to give up chess forever just for the most gorgeous woman! I would much rather stay with chess and find myself the next most wonderful woman... There is no dearth of wonderful, amazing, gorgeous girls! But there is no second game to replace chess!
bluebabygirl 85 ( +1 | -1 )
to any First already a vote to delete this thread! I am not suprised though.
Why , we are talking about chess , how important it is to us?
Macheide, I didn't understand your coded answer but get the impression you
are all in favor of Romance over Chess.
ccma -Come on now ,you know you are being far too chosy waiting for a beautiful woman with a stock of Arabian race horses. Surely her owning a new mustang would do if she were beautiful and nice!!!! You chose if mustang is a car or real deal. lol.
Bro, nice answer -but I still ONLY think you said yes to Romance
Mary875, good call. Of course choosing fiancee is correct.
Honololu, you sound quite sure and I agree that its a no brainer to me also.

OK, if I got this correct only invincible one chose chess so far.
That makes it 6 to 1 in favor of Romance. Coooooooooool!!!!
Awaiting to see if anymore chess dedicated show up.---BBG
adeel 5 ( +1 | -1 )
my option play chess with beautiful girl :)
snake_man 5 ( +1 | -1 )
lol at adeel, that is probably the best answer yet! :)
finduriel 46 ( +1 | -1 )
well Honestly speaking, I could imagine more interesting things to do or play with a beautiful girl. So I'm in 100% agreement with macheide, only that I find the choices you originally gave a little "undramatic". If I had a beautiful girlfriend that would spend every night with me making love, I might (just about) sacrifice one of those nights to play chess with Judith, though I would lose badly.
ccmcacollister 94 ( +1 | -1 )
BBG ....No Fair !! You did not say I could have a 'love slave' :) I guess my inate machismo is supposed to assume that,& being a Man, aka King of My World. But you see, it is so hard to compete when you have an amazingly handsome look alike that is a GM TOO. I've kinda given up lately. I think Van der Weil is getting all the girls. 8-(

On the other hand once you've ridden an el Rabi stallion (had two, but fresh out); that 15.5+ hands of fearless, uncatchable King of the Winds, you can't settle for a Mustang. (well, maybe a spotless, built 69 351 Cleveland. Certainly whoever lets me drive their 300mph Funny Car would get the date! Yes, Ima speed freak!) But until then I want my date to at least provide a good horse, good guitar, and what the heck, great vocals. And Then, we retire from our day ... to play Chess over wine and dinner. And she whispers in my ear ..."someday I'll beat you". OK?

Well, I'll Take That Date!
(But you know I've already phoned the GM to postpone, right ? [8-)
ccmcacollister 4 ( +1 | -1 )
Then Again .... Why not get the GM a date and we make it a double, huh? Ya. There we go.

Baby girl blue... I did say yes to romance... Any time of the day... As many times as it takes or she wants... But it wouldn't be easy vs a grand master opportunity... That would have to happen for an answer... Next time I'm in San Francisco at the Mechanics Institute and you see me about to sit down for a game with the many assortments of Grandmasters that visit there, hit on me and lets see if I can actually do it...

Bro...
invincible1 92 ( +1 | -1 )
I don't get this My answer only meant if it is "Live with chess and the second most gorgeous wonderful girl" versus "Live without chess and the most gorgeous wonderful girl", then my answer would be the first....
But if the question means something like "Remove chess from this world" or "Remove all girls from this world".. I would surely prefer to remove chess!
I only meant that doing away with the most gorgeous girl does not mean end of romance! There are plenty of nice girls around! But there is no second game to chess...
If I have to choose a life between chessing always but having no love or having love always but no chess... the answer is too obvious.. everyone would choose love. Afterall, love is an intrinsic desire of humankind.. so that does not even make a poll topic!
kai_sim 101 ( +1 | -1 )
argh i would allways say that i would choose chess over romance!
...but between it's romance...
its kinda sad
my girl is watching me while playing and asking me, for how long i'll be still online. yes, everytime when i get that question i log off imedeatly, but didn't noticed before, that i'm online since the last few hrs...
yes, i'm chess addicted, but if she would make me choose to time out in all my games or taking care of her, i would make my moves in the team games and time out in the others ( :-P )
no, not even in the "others"... was kidding
but still, i can't find out what is more important.
no offense girls, but how often do we watch "opera" with you together, even if we hate her?
isn't it kinda the same? we all take care of our hobbies AND take care of the familly! and the "other one" only feels bored, because he/she doesn't share the same interest and has nothing else to do. but we DO love us. so i think, at the end, we all will do our moves and watch opera, and will not start to complain, because the "other one" is following his/her interests without forgetting who we love
love and peace

it depends well no it doesnt... cause if its ONE GAME, or a day of romance with whomever i want... its not chess.... how...ehhh...how romantic?
ketchuplover 2 ( +1 | -1 )
I'm afraid of women. :(
ajb1955 19 ( +1 | -1 )
not even close... speaking from a male perspective it isn't even close! chess does not even come anywhere near women~ sorry chess fans but women have my heart~
sly_lonewolf 15 ( +1 | -1 )
Romance or Chess?... Pls accept my sincere vote of dedication to 'Romance'! :-)

btw, so ketchuplover, you're choosing women or not?
anaxagoras 18 ( +1 | -1 )
I don't think it's a balanced question. How often can I spend a nice day with my sweetie and how often do I play chess with my favorite grandmaster?
...
Can I spend the day with a departed grandmaster?
neelix 11 ( +1 | -1 )
Both I would choose for romance and chess! In other words a game of chess with my favorite Judit! :-)
mary875 76 ( +1 | -1 )
By the way, do you know that bluebabygirl has been life-banned from GK forum and thus leaving GK for well? See her profile... By the way bis, does anybody else noticed the low activity on forum those days? Has everybody been banned, or is it just Easter vacations? I know, I'm off-topic, but sounded rather intersting since she started this thread... and thus, it may not be so off-topic!

Back on topic. I already voted for my fiancée and I would like just to add that playing against a grandmaster would be a total waste of time, as our levels are so much apart... at least for me! Though, can I play Capablanca? Then it might be worth make my darling waiting a little bit ;)

Cheers,

Yannick
