6 ( +1 | -1 ) He told me,when he left correspondence chess his rating was 2100.
68 ( +1 | -1 ) manners?Since when did asking if someone knows a person's rating become bad manners? Ratings are public knowledge and not some private matter. I don't feel I know him well enough (ie. at all) to pester him with such a trivial question when I can easily ask someone else. If noone was able to give me an answer then I would have ask him. To accuse people of being rude by talking about someone's rating is a bit strange. We talk about Kasparov's and other gm's rating all the time. Noone says that is rude. I think it would be flattering to have people talk about you in such awe. 2100 is a master rating for cc chess btw. Very impressive.
94 ( +1 | -1 ) Youdon't get it judokausa do you??
You write: "I don't feel I know him well enough (ie. at all) to pester him with such a trivial question when I can easily ask someone else"
Why do you want to ask somebody else when you could and should ask himself, after all he would be the right person to know, don't you think?
This thread was started as a congratulation on a fine achievement by cyrano, you took it astray by your silly talk about rating.
I noticed your arrival to Gameknot was in February and I wish you very welcome. I also noticed that your are quite productive in the Forums, maybe you should use a little more time to be adjusted into these fine Forums, just a friendly advise.
Best wishes Cairo
31 ( +1 | -1 ) Cairo…With all due respect, I don't get it either. You mention "silly talk about rating" Is that or is that not the subject of this thread? Judokausa's question was harmless enough and his reluctance to pester cyrano is also understandable.
I don't want to blow this out of proportion, but maybe more sensitivity is needed all the way around.
65 ( +1 | -1 ) Withall due respect to you as well honololou, my point is:
I find it somewhat strange asking somebody else about a specific information, when you could ask the person himself direct. There is nothing wrong about judokausa's question, but why having a discussion between others, when the person is present!! I would prefer to be asked directly.
My choice of the word "silly" was silly and I do apologise for that.
Best wishes Cairo
144 ( +1 | -1 ) interesting<This thread was started as a congratulation on a fine achievement by cyrano, you took it astray by your silly talk about rating.>
How is my asking about his FIDE rating silly? I do feel that it is quite an accomplishment. I fail to see how my question is silly or any other demeaning term.
<I noticed your arrival to Gameknot was in February and I wish you very welcome. I also noticed that your are quite productive in the Forums, maybe you should use a little more time to be adjusted into these fine Forums, just a friendly advise.> I see you have looked into my "background" here. I fail to see how this has any baring on the subject at hand. Time on a server or in a group has no relevance to if a question is valid or not. I try to answer questions in a non-threatening and non-demeaning. I enjoy all aspect of the chess world from ratings to history.
Let me put this in another light. Would I email Kasparov to ask him what his current rating is? What about ___________? You can answer this question for yourself.
I think your making a big deal out of a simple question that was in no way meant as offensive or a slight toward Cyrano's accomplishment. I DO take offense at any question being called "silly talk" be it mine or anyone's on this forum.
My question was answered and I thank the person who spent the time to answer it. And I admire and have played over Cyrano's games for my own study and congradulate him on his accomplishment.
I am done with this post.
17 ( +1 | -1 ) I noticed...that there are 3 separate threads started on the subject. And I think that only one of them (in GameKnot Related forum part) is still about the subject:(
32 ( +1 | -1 ) Good Cairo...i agree with u. Cyrano is playing in GK again. He could ask directly to him his rating, not in a forum's discussion. He could wrote to him to ask his rating but i think he did not. Eventually after writing to him he could ask to everyone, but until that moment... Regards to everyone criss_cross_it
5 ( +1 | -1 ) ExcellentCongratulations Cyrano. A chess milestone and achievement.
15 ( +1 | -1 ) welldone I was obviously wrong!! He is the best player at gameknot. What attacking ability he has. Also I agree with Cairo, you could easily ask Cyrano!
27 ( +1 | -1 ) I was unaware that therewas a time period to become adjusted to these silly forums, Excellent play though Cyrano.I know you're one 2000+ player whom plays with all levels of players, which means alot to a lowly rated player A CLASS ACT...Thanks
33 ( +1 | -1 ) Congrats...cyrano on all of your chess achievements. Many strive to play like you. And thank you for playing lower ranking players. It sure means alot to us. And finally, hey cheer up. You're the best at GK. A smile on your profile picture is allowed. just kidding. ;)
28 ( +1 | -1 ) ratingCyrano is the best player on GK, but the question about FIdE rating is strange, because our rating is another one. If Cyrano wins next 100 games his rating will be about 3600? Not to compare with ELO. After all ,the most important thing is to play good chess.
48 ( +1 | -1 ) Not to take away......from his 2820 rating, but cryano hasn't defeated anyone over 2032 in his last 50 games. I find Mestrinho and Brunetti's ratings more impressive. The fact that they have a higher percentage of losses and wins against the top players indicates to me that they don't play for the safe draw, whereas Cryano appears to do just that when playing the 2100+ players. But what do I know...I'm just a lowly 1300 player.
3 ( +1 | -1 ) interesting all...shall we play a chessgame?
43 ( +1 | -1 ) Cerner_rcWhen you have got a lot of games going on, like Cyrano, I doubt that you challenge only the top players. Cyrano is playing the top at gk, and he is doing very well. The lower the rating the quicker the game, so it is natural that his statistics is as it is.
I think it is rude and petty to write these things about him. I do not doubt that he is the strongest player here.
To sum things up, your post is unnecessary and without any value for a good discussion at all.
31 ( +1 | -1 ) AggMy apologies if I sounded rude and petty. I wasn't trying to debase cryano, but rather disagree with the staus quo in this thread that he's the best player on GK. If he plays as many games as brunetti has and still is 2800+ or has as high of a percentage of quality wins as mestrinho, I will stand corrected.
78 ( +1 | -1 ) Well, cyrano has 62 games in progress, and nearly 700 games played with only 4 losses. Only a few other players (e.g., brunetti) have a comparable strength with so many games played. Also, cyrano's losing percentage is the lowest of any player on GK--the only top player who has fewer losses than him is allkarlos (with around half as many games played).
As for whether the games are quality, well, you should probably look at them yourself, rather than ask the forum.
3 ( +1 | -1 ) Atrifix...I see what you mean by quality...
39 ( +1 | -1 ) Thisthread needs to be deleted immediately. You people need to get a life and leave this man alone. I am so sorry that he has beaten so and so and lost to so and so. Try putting your game under this microscope!! It is very tiring to the rest of us when you peanut gallery are boring and tedious. Let sleeping dogs lie and go on with playing. It would be better to study his play then wagging of tails!!
33 ( +1 | -1 ) Being 1st is a stressful job:)The only solution is just not pay attention. We already saw all these pointless discussions about Brunetti:)
And, Cerner_rc, are you serious about playing for safe draw?? Then I don't think you saw his games...
18 ( +1 | -1 ) And to think...It all started with congradulations... To think that someone with such a big nose can create such a squable... Different names yet same attitude... Funny how it works...
103 ( +1 | -1 ) what is the big deal? All of this is no different from (and no worse than) the typical sports commentary and roundtable that you get on ESPN or some other sports program. We have a superstar, cyrano, an amazing undefeated streak, and a spattering of recent losses. All of this fuels interest and speculation.
Most of us players (including myself) struggle with our own games and marvel at cyrano's chess prowess. Some want to compare his record with other great players here. Some are curious about his FIDE rating, assuming that he is equally proficient over the board. Nearly all of these comments are testament to the respect and admiration that is felt for the #1 GK player.
I guess I just don't understand the fuss—certainly there are always going to be a few disrespectful remarks, but, as the primo player here, cyrano is a celebrity, of sorts, and people are bound to talk about him. as long as the discussion is mostly congratulatory and respectful, I see no reason to get "all bent out of shape".
8 ( +1 | -1 ) the great cyranoi expect he is flattered by all the praise heaped on him... or maybe he doesn't give a toss.
12 ( +1 | -1 ) criterea to measurea player's strenght...in the GK system it is not only the rating...anybody can see that if you carefully analyse the facts....Those who can...can...those who can't ...can't...((-:
